Byrd Dewey Miller. It is with heart wrenching pain that I tell you about lives greatest blessing. Another one of America’s Greatest Generation has gone on to receive eternal life through his Lord and savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at his home. Byrd Dewey Miller, 91, of Drews Creek, WV was born August 21, 1926 in Mingo County, WV a son of the late Chap and Pearl Gunnoe Miller, to a world full of pain and hard work yet he never complained about anything. At age 10, his mother died, six months later his infant sister, Rosann died. Age 16, he enlisted in the US Navy and at age 17 he landed on the beach of Okinawa which became the bloodiest battle of the Pacific in WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Opal Vealey Miller; a son, Ronald Delwin Miller and wife, Nancy; brothers, Eugene, Robel, Kennneth Dale and Harry; a grandson, Jason. Left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Byrdena Shepherd and husband, Matthew; a son, Wayne Miller and wife, Carolyn; 5 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 27 step-great grandchildren.
