Louise Smith

August 9, 1929 ~ March 10, 2018 (age 88)

Louise Smith, 88, of Sylvester, went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2018, after a short illness. Louise was born on August 9, 1929, in Alkol, WV, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Freda (Curry) Tully. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Owen. Also predeceased by a sister, Lucille Hill Fisher and a brother, Charles “Boots” Tully. Louise was a devoted wife and mother. For many years, she provided a loving home for her family. She sewed, was an excellent cook, and kept a well-maintained home while being actively engaged in her daughters’ school activities. Her favorite hobby was hand quilting. Her most important attribute was passing on her Christian values to her family. Louise touched many lives throughout her community and church family. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Peytona. She will be lovingly remembered as a beautiful mother, mother-in-law, MomMaw, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind three devoted daughters and son-in-laws: Carol and Chet Alexander of Raleigh, NC; Gail and Loren Daniel of Seng Creek; Donna and Kenny Bailey of Fosterville. Sisters: Eleanor (Jerry) Burris, Brenda (Billy) Glick and Barbara Wills of Huntington; Brothers: Ken (Brenda) Tully and Mike (Janet) Tully of Hamlin. Louise took great pride and pleasure in her grandchildren- Brian (Stephanie) Daniel of Peytona; Denise (Will) Lake of Raleigh, NC; Amy (Doug) Brown of Bloomingrose; Heather (Jamie) Bigley of Mt Pleasant, SC. She also leaves behind her precious great-grandchildren: Maddie Daniel, Zac and Zoe Lake, Juliet Brown, and Weston Bigley. The family expresses their thanks to the caring and dedicated staff at the Hubbard Hospice House. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jagannath and his staff for the many years of exceptional medical care and friendship. Also special thanks to Sue Tawney for helping as a caregiver for our beautiful mother. Funeral services to celebrate Louise’s life will be held Tuesday, March 13, at 11:00 AM, Church of Christ, Peytona, WV. With Minister Charlie McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery Orgas, WV. Visitation will be Monday, March 12, from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at the church. Pallbearers are: Will Lake, Zac Lake, Jamie Bigley, Donnie Pauley, Lindy Abbott and John DeRamio. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hubbad Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311. Armstrong Funeral Home is serving the family.
