The Rev Carl Phillip Nicholas “Phil” made his transition to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday the 28th of January.
Phil was born February 12, 1954, in Charleston, WV to the late Carl and Helen (Keeney) Nicholas. Besides his parents whom he loved and adored, he was preceded in death by his sweet aunt Myron “Nonnie” (Keeney) Nidiffer and his maternal grandparents, Huey and Grace (Foster) Keeney, all of Fosterville, WV; paternal grandparents, Dan and Frona (Cottrell) Nicholas of Bickmore, WV; and Uncle Ken and Gay (Nicholas) Babcock from Tornado, WV.
Left to cherish Phil’s memory his cousins whom were like his brothers; Roger (Imogene) Foster of Morgantown, WV, Ricky (Sherry) Foster of Fosterville, WV; and other cousins Greg(Meighan) Foster of Alexandria, VA, Adam (Trish) Foster of Fosterville, WV, Jason (Amy) Foster of Scott Depot, WV, Milissa (Freddy) Foster Blackwell, his uncle William "Bill" Nidiffer of Kanawha City, WV, his church family at Healing Stream Church in Seth, WV, and his close friends Wally (Glenna) Woodrum of Seth, WV and Ernie Tetoff of Seth, WV and Phil’s darling friend Linda Klein of Florida.
Phil was a 1972 graduate of Sherman High School in Seth, WV. he also attended Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) in Charleston, WV. Phil was a life long member of Healing Stream Baptist Church in Seth, WV in which he pastored there for a period of time. He retired from his work for the State of WV after more then 20 years of loyal service.
One of his greatest joys is life was going to shows at Civic Center. He loved going backstage and meeting the stars of country music and rock and roll. Phil was an avid baseball fan and would like to tell stories of the “ol” Watt Powell Park in Charleston, WV. He loved those Charleston Charlie’s and the Cincinnati Reds but above all else his love of the Lord Jesus Christ and the importance of Salvation was his greatest love. Phil never met a stranger and never had a bad word for anyone.
The family wishes to acknowledge the expert and loving care of Dr William Harris, gerontologist, who provided care to Phil for many years and guidance to the family in dealing with challenges of dementia. The family would like to thank the staff at Abbyshire Place in Bidwell, OH and the Heartland Hospice of Ohio for the loving care for Phil.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations may be made to Abbyshire Place or Heartland Hospice.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Healing Stream Church in Seth, WV. Pastor David Minturn will officiate the service. Friends and family may visit from 10:00am-11:00am. Funeral will begin at 11:00am with burial to follow at Pineview Cemetery in Orgas, WV. Armstrong Funeral Home Whitesville is serving the family.
