Sherman Bailey, 76, of Rock Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2019 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston, WV. He attended church at Rock Creek Community Church and fondly called it “the little church beside the road”, where he was a member and served as deacon /superintendent for the last several years. He loved and served the Lord. He worked at Armco, Bethlehem Steel and Peabody Coal and retired with 32 years of service. He was a member of UMWA District 17 and Local Union 2271. Sherman never met a stranger, had a quick wit and had a smile that would light up the room. He loved to reminisce about his childhood, growing up in Shumates Branch and would tell stories that made everyone laugh. He was a kind, caring and giving man who was always helping out his neighbors in their time of need. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Nannie Clay Bailey. His sisters, Emma Mae Moles, Arbutus Stone and an infant sister. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rosemary; a daughter, Rose Ann Harvey and her husband, Lewis of Rock Creek; a grandson, James Casey Bailey, whom he helped raise and his wife, Bobbie and a very dear friend, Donnie Russell. Three great-grand daughters: Shayna, Lyla, and Anna Rose, the light of his life. A brother, David Bailey of Whitesville and two sisters, Evaline Sharp of Marlinton and Addalee Sheets of Sabine. Step grandchildren: Mark Harvey and Amber Lilly, Nick and his wife, Crystal Harvey, Luke and his wife, Tammy Harvey and several step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 2:00 in the Rock Creek Community Church Rock Creek, WV with Pastor Donnie Russell officiating and Scott Shuster singing. Visitation will be 2 hours before the service. Interment will follow in the Cantley Family Cemetery Rock Creek, WV. Armstrong Funeral Home served the family.
