Mary Ann Rose Therese Wiltgen Holsten

June 15, 1937 ~ January 6, 2019 (age 81)

Mary Ann Rose Theresé Wiltgen Holsten, 81, of Teays Valley, WV passed away on January 6th, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House after a short illness. She was known to friends and family by her nickname, Marty. She was born June 15, 1937 to Joseph Wiltgen and Marion Fiala in Chicago, Illinois and baptized into the Roman Catholic Church. She was raised in Chicago until age 18 when she enlisted into the United States Women’s Army Corps, reaching the rank of Private 2nd Class, she was honorably discharged on July 2nd, 1957. During her time in the service she met Cleveland “Peanuts” Holsten and they were married on March 23, 1957. They had four children who were born on military bases across the country including Fort Sam Houston Texas, Fort Benning Georgia, Fort Eustis Virginia, before they settled in Whitesville, WV after retirement. Marty was a devoted army wife and homemaker for 30 years. After the passing of her husband, she entered the workforce for the first time at age 50. After being disabled 12 years later she turned backed to the Catholic religion she was raised in and began watching EWTN. She watched Mass daily and received communion weekly at home (thank you Marti Lucas) from the Ascension Catholic Church in Hurricane, WV, this gave her great joy and peace. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her quick wit, and her feisty personality. She will be deeply missed by all who know and love her. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Wiltgen and Marion Fiala, her loving husband, Cleveland B. Holsten, two brothers, Vincent and Freddie Wiltgen, and her grandson Joseph Michael West. Marty is survived by her sisters, Pat Hennigan of Chicago, IL and Phyllis Dvoracek of Las Vegas, NV. Her three daughters: Rebecca (Phil) Weaver of Beckley, WV, Theresa West of Charleston, WV, and Linda (Tracy) Surface of Teays Valley, WV, one son, Joseph Holsten of Poca, WV. Eleven grandchildren, Stephen (Mary) Toney of Beckley, WV, Cassandra (Jacob) Bowman of Charleston, WV, Nicholas West of Morgantown, WV, Ryan (Amanda) West of Barboursville, WV,  Joshua Armstrong of Pinch, WV, Kaylen Surface of Teays Valley, Zara Sheridan of Malden, WV, and Zak Sheridan of Missouri, Chris West of Bob White, Melissa Gurski (Joe) of Wharton, WV, Brandi (Keith) Dickerson of Brian, OH.  She is also survived by eight great grandchildren who lovingly called her Grammy and many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss her greatly. Graveside services will be held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2019, at 1:00 in the Pineview Cemetery Mausoleum Orgas, WV with Rev. Paul Wharton officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
